Financial Assistance

Who is Eligible
Financial assistance is for Maryland Sports Association programs and only students, ages 5-17, are eligible to apply. Parents (or Head of Household) of the applicant must provide a copy of their most recent Federal tax form 1040, 1040A, 1040EZ, or Social Security Income Statement. If the applicant is currently receiving financial assistance (e.g. Meal Benefits through Montgomery County Public Schools) please provide documentation.  This documentation will replace the requirement to submit Federal Tax and Social Security Income Statement. Pay stubs and W2s are not acceptable. In accordance with Federal and State law and policy, discrimination is prohibited on the basis of race, color, national origin, sex, age, or disability.  No MD SPORTS’ sponsors, employees, Board Members, or their dependents, may receive financial assistance.

How Financial Assistance Works
MD SPORTS will provide financial assistance to qualifying applicants in the form of tuition remission for MD SPORTS after school sports clinics and camps.  The amount of assistance granted to applicants is based on the following three criteria: financial need (weight 30%), the application including a short essay demonstrating the applicant’s desire to learn the necessary skills to play team sports (weight 19%), and MD SPORTS program enrollment (weight 51%).

¨       Financial need is based on the number of dependents and annual household income level. The household income level must meet the Federal income guidelines, which are updated annually, and as follows: for a household with one dependent, the annual income must not exceed $16,391.  The annual income may increase by $5,698 for each additional dependent.  An applicant may meet the financial needs criteria if he/she is currently receiving school lunch assistance, and can provide MD SPORTS with the supporting documentation.

¨       The applicant is asked to submit an application.  The application must be complete and must include a brief essay that describes the applicant’s reason for wanting to participate in one of MD SPORTS’ clinics or camps.

¨       MD SPORTS will provide financial assistance providing the projected enrollment for the clinic or camp session requested by the applicant is met.  One additional application for the same clinic, or camp session will be considered as long as the enrollment exceeds the estimate by 10 paying clients.  MD SPORTS will not provide financial assistance to more than two qualified applicants any one each camp session or clinic per year.

Withdrawal from a Program

The applicant’s assistance may be used for designated MD SPORTS programs only, and may not be changed without submitting a written request and received by MD SPORTS no later than 5 days prior to the program start date. The request may either be mailed, or faxed to MD SPORTS.

How to Apply
You may apply for financial assistance at any time. A new application must be submitted each year.  To apply, you must provide a completed application, including an essay, along with your tax form, Social Security Income Statement, or proof of eligibility for Montgomery County School Meal Benefit program. You will be notified by mail.
